Why Men Prefer the External Catheter

What is an external catheter and what are its advantages over traditional catheters?  The external catheter is designed differently from the traditional internal catheter, which must be inserted into the penis.  This is not excruciatingly painful as you might think, though some men still detest the idea.  For those who are not keen on the idea of repeated insertion, the external or Texas style catheter is a solid compromise.

These catheters are not actually inserted but worn around the penis, just as a condom would be used.  The condom-like device is used to drain the urine from the bladder.  The catheter is connected to an item called a drainage bag, which holds the urine.  The bag is strapped to the leg and affixed in a variety of ways, most of which are adhesives. How Does An External Catheter Work

Catheters are products which are used in order to drain urine away from the bladder. Though internal catheters are painless when used in the correct manner, just the very idea of them makes many men extremely uncomfortable and so the idea of an external catheter is one which provides a great deal of relief.

An external catheter is a catheter which both resembles and operates in much the same way as a condom, hence why it is referred to as an “external” catheter rather than the traditional kind. Few men object to wearing a condom, and so using an external catheter tends to make them cope with the idea of urinary incontinence, prostrate recovery and various different kinds of health issues for which an external catheter may be required, a lot easier. How An External Catheter Works

How does an external catheter work?  The catheter is a product designed to drain urine from a man’s bladder.  Ordinarily, the thought of the internal catheter is a disturbing one, and one often associated with pain.  (Though ironically catheters do not cause pain when proper directions are followed)  Nevertheless, the external catheter provides a sigh of relief to many men who dislike the idea of sticking anything inside their penile hole.

This type of catheter looks and operates like a condom, hence the reference to an “external” product.  Most men don’t mind putting condoms on, and hence would have a much easier time coping with urinary incontinence, prostate recovery, and various other health problems.  These condoms connect to a drainage bag that is tied onto a man’s leg.  The catheter, like a condom, is only to be worn once.  However, the time period is about 24 hours.  After that, the external catheter is replaced.  The drainage bag can be washed, though some may prefer to simply buy new bags, as they are fairly inexpensive.
